Beautiful Crab Island
What’s to See at Crab Island?
Crab Island is a popular sandbar located in the Choctawhatchee Bay near Destin, Florida. It is a popular spot for boaters, kayakers, and paddleboarders to anchor and enjoy the shallow, crystal clear water. You can only get there by boat!
During the summer months, Crab Island is a bustling spot with floating restaurants, vendors, and even live music at times. It is important to note that Crab Island is not an actual island, but rather a sandbar that emerges during low tide. Since we have one of the largest boats in the area, we can’t get on the island because it’s too shallow but we can get close. In addition, we always warn our guests of the current and tidal conditions, as they can be strong and unpredictable. It is recommended to wear life jackets and stay within designated swimming areas.
Crab Island is within the Gulf Islands National Seashore. Established in 1971, it is managed by the National Park Service and comprises a series of barrier islands and mainland areas that offer a diverse range of natural and cultural resources. The park covers over 130 miles of coastline and includes pristine beaches, marshes, bayous, historic forts, and other cultural resources. Visitors to the Gulf Islands National Seashore can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, including swimming, snorkeling, fishing, hiking, birdwatching, and camping.
